Terroir
On the left bank of the Rhône, backing against the first food-hill of the Alps, the vineyard of Gigondas, sheltred by the famous Dentelles de Montmirail, overlook the whole Valley. Stony red clay alluvium on the slopes, and wide terraces. Exposure: mainly in N.W facing on table-land and slope grounds. Mediterranean weather with sunny days and fresh nights facilitate the maturation of the grapes. The Mistral, a regional wind, helps to this process. 32hl/ha. Harvested.
Grapes varieties
75% Grenache noir, 15% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre and Cinsault. The grapes come from the scrublands of Gigondas and from the hillsides of the Dentelles de Montmirail.
Winemaking
Traditional. Total de-stemming. Cold maceration before fermentation. Alcoholic fermentation from 15 to 20 days with progressive increase of the temperature in order to preserve the «fruity» aromas. Unballasting, manual punching of the cap. Without oak. In vat to preserve the roundness and fruity aromas of the wine.
Tasting notes
A red Gigondas with purple hints. Brilliant and limpid. This wine has a pleasant and fruity nose. In mouth, bouquet of liquorice, pepper fennel, aromas dominates. A fruity and fleshy wine with velvety smooth tannins. The palate is rich, well balanced. Ends with a lingering finish. Accompaniment advices : Pears and four spices Duck filets.
